Carsonic Commentary

2009 is set to become a momentous year for our SIG.

In Autumn 1999, the Journal of Research in Marketing and Entrepreneurship was launched and an Inaugural Commentary for the Journal was written by David Carson. The abstract read as follows:

“The Author considers the nature of the Interface and argues that it can be seen as a new paradigm, and, looks forward to colleagues and researchers using the medium of this Journal to further the work and development of the Interface. David Carson on behalf of all of us at the Interface thanks Professor Gerry Hills without whom none of this would have happened.”

Carson’s commentary (which expanded upon views expressed in an editorial of a special issue of the European Journal of Marketing –v29 n7, 1995), argued that a ‘single paradigm’ was as pertinent in 1999 as it was in 1995.

Questions, questions, questions

What has changed in general Marketing since 1999?
And 10 years on, how has our domain changed, expanded, or re-formed?
Did the NostraCarson predictions ring true?
What do we predict for our domain over the next 10 years?

Theoretical, methodological, and/or empirical research papers in any research area of entrepreneurial and small business marketing and any sector of marketing (B to B or B to C, products or services) are welcome.

Under this umbrella of entrepreneurial and small business marketing, research papers could be related to creating value (market research, competitive analysis, product, service, pricing), communicating value (consumer behaviour, branding, advertising, personal selling, promotion), or delivering value (channels management, wholesaling, retailing, CRM, web-based marketing), or their integration (marketing strategy, competitive strategy, marketing processes, marketing organisation).

In addition, the JRME has a continued special interest in papers that address the following themes, and you are most welcome to present your ideas to the SIG conference prior to submission:

• Opportunity recognition
• The relationship between marketing strategies and financial performances within entrepreneurial firms
• New methodologies for the analysis of entrepreneurial firms
• Case studies that focus on entrepreneurial firms
